NIH R21 Funded — Serotonin & Glyphosate in Bumblebees
Our NIH R21 proposal characterizing baseline serotonergic modulation and the effects of glyphosate exposure on olfactory processing and cognition in Bombus impatiens has been funded. We are now recruiting graduate students for this project.
AutoPollS v2 Deployed at IIT University Farm
Our updated AutoPollS camera network — now running YOLOv11 on-device — went live at the IIT University Farm prairie restoration site. The system is detecting and classifying visiting pollinators in real time.
Citizen Neuroscience Program Launches in Bronzeville
In partnership with local middle and high schools, we kicked off the Citizen Neuroscience Program. Students are now recording insect behavior videos that will be uploaded to our public repository and linked to brain imaging data via QR codes at field sites.
Chicago B3 Lab Opens at Illinois Tech
Matthew Smith joins the Department of Biology at Illinois Institute of Technology as Assistant Professor. The lab is set up and taking its first bumblebee colonies. We are actively recruiting graduate students and undergraduate researchers — see Join Us.
